PERSONALITY
justice is blind
get your lawyer jokes ready
At first sight, he might seem just a simple boy, not really a big deal. If he's with his glasses on, he becomes a typical nerd. A big one. And he totally is, there's no lie in this, though he's also much more than just an asian guy nerd.

Joohyuk is that kind of person who has really deep thoughts about everything around him ─ and a sharp tongue. Sharp enough to cut through the skin and hurt whoever deserves it. The thing is: he may seem shy at first, but he's not afraid to speak his mind. He's not afraid to share his thoughts and opinions, and to fight for what he believes is right. Definitely a strong personality hidden behind a shy smile and a skinny frame.

He used to be pretty shy and quiet, and then he got talkative and more outgoing once he entered college, back in the USA days. Nowadays, here in Yonsei, he easily made friends with almost everyone and gained enough popularity to become the vice president of a fraternity, after being the headmaster of some pranks. Speding so many years being bullied almost made him a bully. Nothing to worry about... Just don't step on his way. He's very competitive about every aspect of his life and if he can't win by the rules of the game, he will probably make his own filthy one. The truth is: he doesn't mind playing dirty, if it means winning in the end.

He's very dedicated to his studies and, obviously, less of a jerk than it may appear. Unless he's angry with something or someone, because he knows exactly what hurts people the most and sometimes he uses it as a weapon against them ─ something he learned back then, when he was just a foreign kid in a place full of bullies.

He isn't a bad person, though. He has a big heart and is very attached to his family and friends. Loyal until the very end to the ones he loves and a little overprotective towards the closest ones - don't mess with his family, seriously. He can also show a goofy side to people, once he gets comfortable around them. He tends to make jokes that no one except him will laugh at, because his sarcastic sense of humor adds a little darker meaning to almost everything he says and jokes about, and only a few people can get it.

If you see him on the streets, he will probably be carrying a Jane Austen's book to read on his spare time, even though his college activities keep him busy almost all the time. He enjoys listening to music, reading books and comics, and hanging with his friends around the campus. Not a party monster, but a little party never killed nobody, right? Well, tequila can be his best friend and also his worst enemy, sometimes... Go figure. There's no doubt, though, that he's addicted to coffee and red bulls. Just anything that keeps him awake enough to study everything he needs to keep his grades high, whilst he manages to take care of his fraternity "business".

FACTS
you're gonna go far, kid
are there some aces up your sleeve?
▶ His relationship with his sister is complicated. She did so well and was so popular in school while he was bullied for being rich and not very outgoing, he felt like he had to snitch to their parents. They truly love each other, but are always bickering.

▶ Batman, Daredevil, etc. Don't get him started.

▶ Has an Italian Greyhound named Owens.

▶ Starbucks is a good, old friend.

HISTORY
do me a favour and stop asking me questions
i don't care what you think as long as it's about me
Born in Seul, 1994. The first son of a workaholic woman, who managed to have more two children a few years later, in another marriage ─ he never met his true father. Joohyuk became the older brother of a little girl and a little boy. It's not a big deal, actually, because their family has always been wealthy enough to hire babysitters to watch over the kids, while the parents could be away to take care of their business. And there he was: a shy kid, born from one of the richest families of the town. He wasn't a big talker or anything like this, even though he has always been more comfortable around his siblings, becoming very attached to his younger sister, especially, like they were full-blood siblings.

When he was 10 years old, his parents decided to move out of the country (for business, mostly) and the whole family went to the USA. "You'll be living the american dream", they said. But it felt more like "american horror story" to him. The first years in Chicago were a nightmare. After all, he was just the small framed asian nerd boy to everyone. School felt like hell and all he wanted was to come back home. Well, at least in the first four years living in America. When he entered high school, things started to slowly change. Joohyuk learned to use his big brain or his family's money to get what he wanted, and also to stay away from the bullies or trouble. His grades were the highest and he really liked studying. He just didn't like being at school. Of course he had like, two or three best friends there, but it didn't make anything better, to be honest.

Thank God high school ended and Joohyuk had finally decided what he wanted for life: to become a lawyer. He thought that, by becoming a lawyer, it would be easier to stand for what he believed in and thought was right. And it was quite easy for him to get into Chicago's University ─ he was the top-student of his school.

Freshman year happened to be a good surprise. Leaving high school behind was quite a challenge, but everything turned out just fine once he was finally in college. People there seemed nicer and more friendly than he thought, although it only took him a few months to find out college wasn't all about that. He had to dedicate a lot more to his studies and of course there would be bullies there, too. They just didn't bother Joohyuk anymore. The boy became more outgoing and started to stand out among the others. But it all only lasted a year and half.

His parents got transferred back to Korea and, even though he wanted it so much years ago, everything was different now. He was finally building a new life, leaving behind all his previous issues and burying them in the past. And he had to leave this behind, too. All his family members wanted to go back and his parents didn't let him stay alone in Chicago, despite all the money they had to afford it. And it definitely pissed him off, but he had no choice.

Coming back to Korea felt, somehow, acceptable, once he managed to get transferred to Yonsei University. Being there, in a place nobody knew him, was a new opportunity for him to change things. He could be everything he wanted ─ and he had the money for it. He's still dedicated to his studies, though ─ it has always been a priority. But he now he manages to have time to make new friends and just chill with them. Every weekend there's a new party and Joohyuk rarely refuses an invitation. He spends his spare time with his friends and his sister, because he's still a little overprotective brother, after all. But now he just enjoys life a bit more and doesn't mind doing whatever it takes to get to wherever he wants to, in life.
